The Austrian scandal painter Egon Schiele died exactly 100 years ago at the age of 28. Albert Anker passed away eight years earlier at the age of 79. In 1887 he painted “The Girl with Bread” which I chose in this picture as a model for Egon Schiele. The result You see on the painted canvas shows the “Woman with Black Socks”, Schiele painted in 1917. Both subjects form a contrast that could not be greater. The image of women, the representation, painting technique and style are as fundamentally different as the way of life, the origin and the contrast between the artists, although they lived almost at the same time.
My fascination applies equally to both artists, which motivated me to paint this work. The girl brings Egon (Schiele) a bread as if to bring food into his meagre, driven and turbulent life.
